Ramadan Crescent Prayer and Welcoming Ritual

Welcome the blessed month of Ramadan with joy and intention. This ritual features the crescent supplication and prayers recited upon sighting the new moon or on the first night of Ramadan.

Intention for Welcoming Ramadan

On the first night of Ramadan, if possible by looking at the crescent or facing the Qiblah, prepare your heart for this blessed month:

"O Allah! I praise You for allowing me to reach this Ramadan. Grant me the opportunity to spend this month in fasting, prayer, the Qur'an, and good deeds. Make Ramadan a means of mercy, forgiveness, and salvation for me."

Crescent Supplication

اللَّهُمَّ أَهْلِلْهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْيُمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ رَبِّي وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ

Surah Al-Baqarah, Verse 185 — The Month of Ramadan

شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ فِيهِ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ هُدًۭى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَٰتٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَٱلْفُرْقَانِ ۚ فَمَن شَهِدَ مِنكُمُ ٱلشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ ۖ وَمَن كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍۢ فَعِدَّةٌۭ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ ۗ يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ بِكُمُ ٱلْيُسْرَ وَلَا يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ ٱلْعُسْرَ وَلِتُكْمِلُوا۟ ٱلْعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَىٰكُمْ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ ﴿١٨٥﴾

Prayer Welcoming Ramadan

"My Lord; make this Ramadan blessed for us, our families, and the entire Ummah. Accept our fasting, prayers, and supplications; and make us among Your forgiven servants at the end of this month. Amin."
